160th Anniversary of Brown’s Mill Battlefield

July 27 @ 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Step back in time at Brown’s Mill Battlefield park in Newnan, where history will come alive with special events honoring this significant Civil War clash.

Experience the echoes of history as the Newnan Regional Amateur Radio club sets up a special-event station, broadcasting Morse code messages just like in 1864. Licensed “ham radio” operators will bring the past to life with transmissions that reach across the U.S. and beyond, using techniques from Morse code to modern computer languages.

Delve into the rich history of Morse code, originally developed by Samuel F.B. Morse in the 1830s for telegraph communication. Visitors can listen to live Morse code conversations and even try their hand at sending messages themselves!

The day will culminate in a poignant sunset ceremony at 7 p.m., honoring the soldiers who fought and fell in this pivotal battle. Join us for a moment of reflection with Civil War reenactors and the moving sound of “Taps” as the sun sets over Brown’s Mill Battlefield. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with history.

Learn, reflect, and commemorate with us at the 160th Battle of Brown’s Mill!

Amateur Radio Broadcast will begin at 12:00pm with the ceremony will be between 7:00pm-8:00pm

(Please note that the actual battle took place and was fought on July 30, 1864)
