With seven districts on the National Register of Historic Places, Newnan-Coweta is a haven for history buffs. But there’s also plenty of other fun to be had. Home to the Newnan Coweta History Center, this neoclassical home was built in 1937 by Atlanta architect Kennon Perry for Ellis Hardeman Peniston and his wife, Mildred Willcoxon Arnall Peniston. The NCHC renovated the home to reflect the colors and styles of the 1930s and 1940s, as well as highlight some of the home’s original features. NCHS is dedicated to preserving and honoring the history of Newnan and Coweta County through exhibits at the McRitchie-Hollis Museum and the Newnan Historic Train Depot.

Caldwell was born in Moreland and became one of America’s most widely read and critically acclaimed writers with a literary output of more than 60 titles. Two of his most popular books, God’s Little Acre and Tobacco Road, were turned into movies by Hollywood. Grizzard, who spent his childhood in Moreland, eventually became almost inseparable from Moreland in his life and his stories. He is one of the most popular and best-known Southern humorists. The museum houses Grizzard’s personal effects from his youth, as well as professional memorabilia, such as his typewriter.

Newnan Centre is a 6,000-square-foot-plus multipurpose facility designed to host various types of events such as corporate meetings, sports events, wedding receptions, banquets, fundraisers and social events. It can accommodate 10 to 700 people.

Main Street Newnan’s Monthly Market Day takes place the first Saturday of each month (March–December) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. around the downtown courthouse square. Featuring 50+ booths, the market offers handmade, homemade, and homegrown goods from local artisans, farmers, and makers. Enjoy fresh produce, baked goods, pottery, art, leather goods, and more!

Pickin’ on the Square happens simultaneously, bringing acoustic musicians together for an open jam session on the courthouse lawn. All skill levels and genres are welcome—just bring an instrument and join the fun!
